BODY: The battle royale and the fighting game world are about to meet. Electronic Arts has announced that Apex Legends will run a collaboration with Capcom's Street Fighter 6, and the highlight is simple: you'll be able to throw a Hadoken on Olympus.
The event starts September 23 at 2:00 a.m. JST. That's September 22 at 10:00 a.m. PT / 1:00 p.m. ET for players in North America, which is Apex's usual update window. The collab covers every platform Apex is on: PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
Olympus is the floating city map, and it's the stage for the crossover. Players can use the Hadoken there, the fireball move that has defined Street Fighter since the series began. EA hasn't said much more about how the move works in a match. The fun will be finding out how a projectile built for a 1v1 fighting game plays in a fast squad shooter.
Apex Legends has done plenty of crossovers before, but a Street Fighter team-up is a natural match. Both games have a big competitive scene, famous characters, and fans who study movement and frame-perfect timing. Street Fighter 6 launched in 2023 and has kept Capcom's fighting game series at the center of esports, so this collab gives both fanbases a reason to try the other game. Watch EA's official channels for more on cosmetics, event rewards, and extra modes as launch gets closer.
The insider take
In Japan, this collab lands at a great time. Street Fighter 6 is still huge in the country's streaming scene. Top Japanese streamers and pro players regularly go back and forth between SF6 and Apex, and both games often show up together in the lineups of big creator-run tournaments like the Crazy Raccoon Cup. For many Japanese viewers, seeing a Hadoken on Olympus feels like two halves of their weekly streaming schedule finally meeting. Expect the clips to trend on X in Japan within hours of launch. And since the event starts at 2 a.m. local time, plenty of Tokyo players will be staying up late for it.
