BODY: Burger King Japan is going big again. Starting April 17, the chain will roll out two new additions to its oversized "Big Mouth" series — the Bacon Double Beef Big Mouth Smokehouse and the Onion Ring Double Beef Big Mouth Smokehouse — both available for a limited time.
The new burgers build on the Big Mouth platform, which features wide, flat patties designed to deliver maximum flavor in every bite. The Bacon variant layers smoky bacon over double beef patties with smokehouse sauce, while the Onion Ring version swaps in crispy onion rings for added crunch and sweetness. Both are priced from ¥1,490 for the burger alone.
Alongside the Big Mouth launches, Burger King Japan is also introducing a Smokehouse Smoky Fried Chicken burger and Habanero Chicken Nuggets, giving heat-seekers something to look forward to. The fried chicken burger leans into the chain's smokehouse flavor profile, while the habanero nuggets offer a spicy sidekick for those who want to push their limits.
The launches are part of Burger King Japan's ongoing strategy to differentiate itself in one of the world's most competitive fast food markets, where McDonald's, MOS Burger, and Freshness Burger all vie for customers willing to spend a premium on quality ingredients.
The insider take
At nearly ¥1,500 for just the burger — easily ¥1,800 or more as a set — these are firmly in premium territory, even by Tokyo standards. But Burger King Japan has been steadily carving out a niche as the indulgent, no-compromise option for burger fans here. The Big Mouth series in particular has built a following on social media for its unapologetically messy, stacked builds. In a market where convenience store onigiri and gyudon chains offer full meals for under ¥500, spending triple that on a fast food burger is a deliberate choice — and one that a growing segment of Japanese consumers seems happy to make.
