BODY: Tokyo Game Show crowds can drive Axel's yellow taxi again. SEGA has announced its TGS 2026 plans for Crazy Taxi: World Tour, the first all-new game in the series in years.

TGS 2026 runs September 17–21 at Makuhari Messe. September 17–18 are for industry visitors, and the public can attend September 19–21. World Tour comes out in 2027 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, PC (Steam), PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2. SEGA first showed the game in June at the Xbox Games Showcase. It sends Axel around the world and adds online multiplayer, a first for the series.

The game has its own corner at the SEGA/Atlus booth, with playable demos on all platforms. The standout is an arcade-style stand-up station with a steering wheel and gear shifter, built to feel like the original 1999 arcade machine. According to Game*Spark, the Germany map shown at gamescom 2026 will be playable in Japan for the first time.

There's also a photo spot built around Axel's yellow taxi, and you can actually sit inside it. SEGA is handing out sun visors styled like taxi roof lights. Visitors can also earn exclusive freebies by playing the demo, adding the game to their wishlist, or joining the photo campaign.

Two stage shows are planned. The "Mission Challenge Stage" features popular streamer SHAKA on September 17 from 12:40 to 13:10. The "Special Demo Play Stage" features streamer Noriaki Suzuki on September 19 from 14:30 to 15:20.

The insider take

The wheel-and-shifter station is really aimed at Japan's 30- and 40-somethings. They grew up feeding 100-yen coins into Crazy Taxi machines at arcades, back when SEGA ran arcades all over Tokyo. The contrast with real Tokyo taxis is part of the fun: those drive calmly, with white lace seat covers and rear doors that open automatically. Timing matters too. SHAKA's show falls on an industry-only day, so most fans will only see it online, but his big streaming audience is likely why SEGA booked him. If you're going on a public day, get on the JR Keiyo Line to Kaihin-Makuhari early. Booths giving away freebies at TGS usually have long lines by late morning.

Notes for the editor:

  • Taxi name left out: English coverage calls Axel's taxi "Deborah Yellow Jack," but Japanese sources write "ăƒ‡ăƒœăƒ©ăƒ€ăƒ»ă‚€ă‚šăƒăƒŒă‚žăƒŁăƒƒă‚Ż" ("Deborada"). I couldn't confirm the official English name, so the article just says "Axel's yellow taxi."
  • Germany map: Only Game*Spark reports this. Cut it if you want to stick strictly to GAME Watch.
  • Livestreams: I didn't say the stage shows will be streamed, because no source confirms it.
