BODY: If you have ever finished a long session of Mario Kart and noticed the faint sheen your palms left on your Switch 2 Pro Controller, Cyber Gadget has a ¥1,980 answer.
The Tokyo accessory maker has announced the CYBER Controller Protect Cover (for Switch 2 Pro Controller), due in early December 2026 at ¥1,980 (roughly $13). It is a clear, two-piece shell moulded from what the company calls lightweight, high-quality polycarbonate, and it goes on by simply clipping the joint sections together — no adhesive, no heat-shrink wrap, no disassembly.
The pitch is unglamorous and specific: scratches, dirt and hand sweat. Those are the three things that quietly degrade a controller's finish, and the second two are the reason so many well-loved pads develop that sticky, slightly yellowed look after a year. Cyber Gadget says the cover stays on during play and does not block the charging cable or the headphone connection, so there is no ritual of peeling it off before every session.
It is also designed to coexist with the rest of Cyber Gadget's Switch 2 line. The company specifically notes compatibility with its separately sold CYBER Analog Stick Covers "Nekonyan" and "Nekonyan Plus" — cat-paw thumbstick grips — so the full-protection build is a clear shell plus feline silicone caps. The cover ships in a single clear colourway, one piece per package.
The insider take
Third-party protective shells occupy a bigger cultural space in Japan than they do abroad, and it comes down to resale. A controller that still looks untouched fetches meaningfully more on Mercari, Suruga-ya or in a Hard Off glass case, and Japanese buyers scrutinise condition grades in a way that makes "keeping it mint" a rational financial habit rather than fussiness. Cyber Gadget — a Shibuya-based outfit that has been churning out budget console accessories since the PlayStation 2 era — has built a business on exactly this instinct: arrive early in a platform's life, price under ¥2,000, and let the clear plastic do the talking. With the Pro Controller costing several times the price of this cover, the maths is not hard.
