BODY: Two of Square Enix's biggest Final Fantasy properties are about to collide. At the FFXIV Fan Festival 2026 in Berlin on July 25, the studio announced Beyond the Lifestream, a new eight-player raid series that folds the world of Final Fantasy VII Remake into Final Fantasy XIV: Silver Wanderer.
The raid arrives in three installments, beginning with Patch 8.01. As is now standard for FFXIV's alliance and raid content, it will ship across three difficulty tiers—Normal for the broad player base, a mid-tier challenge, and a punishing Savage mode for veterans chasing the best gear and bragging rights.
What makes this collaboration stand out is the creative firepower behind it. The project draws on talent from the FFVII Remake series, including design supervision from Tetsuya Nomura, whose fingerprints are all over modern Final Fantasy's visual identity. FFVII Remake producer Naoki Hamaguchi framed the content as a chance to "experience the distinctive qualities of FFVII from within FFXIV"—a nod to the fact that this isn't just a costume-and-weapon cameo, but an attempt to translate FF7's tone and set pieces into an MMO raid.
For FFXIV players, crossover raids are familiar territory—previous tie-ins with NieR: Automata and Final Fantasy XVI proved wildly popular. But pairing the game with FFVII Remake, arguably Square Enix's most prestige single-player franchise right now, signals unusually high ambition.

Here in Tokyo, this pairing reads as a deliberate strategic move. FFVII Remake and FFXIV are the twin engines of Square Enix's Final Fantasy revenue, and the company has been increasingly keen to cross-pollinate their enormous, only-partly-overlapping fanbases. Announcing it at a Western Fan Festival rather than the Tokyo event is telling, too—Square Enix knows the overseas MMO audience is where FFXIV's growth story lives, and FFVII remains the single most bankable name it can wave at them.
