BODY: Square Enix announced on October 31 that the next expansion pack for Final Fantasy XIV, titled 白銀のワンダラー (Hakugin no Wanderer, roughly "Silver Wanderer"), will be released on February 23, 2027. Early access is scheduled to begin on February 19.
According to AUTOMATON, the expansion introduces a new chapter of the story, a new battle job system and a new user interface called "Adventurer Activity," among other new elements.
The adventure takes place in a mirrored world known as the Fourth World. The world is being eroded by the power of ice and is facing collapse, and a new trial awaits the Warrior of Light. Many fields and two new jobs are being added, along with a seasonal system and the new battle job system. The game design is described as being renewed to make Final Fantasy XIV easier to play.
Of the two new jobs, the tank job Bastion had been announced earlier. It wields a weapon with a transforming mechanism, called a "magikō," and switches between melee attacks and cannon fire.
The second job, newly introduced this time, is Zephyr, a ranged physical DPS. In addition to shooting with a crossbow, it can launch combined attacks with a raptor-type familiar named Nephere, and it has multiple movement actions. AUTOMATON notes that this is the first new ranged physical job since Dancer in 2019.
Final Fantasy XIV is available on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2.
