BODY: A reincarnated demon queen, a stoic soldier, and a steady stream of home-cooked meals — the recipe for one of the season's most-anticipated romance announcements just got a new chapter. On Friday, an anime adaptation of Aisanai to Iwaremashitemo: Moto Maou no Hakushaku Reijou wa Kimajime Gunjin ni Ezuke wo Sarete Shiawase ni Naru — known in English as Dinners with My Darling: How the Former Monster King Ate Her Way to Happiness — was officially announced, complete with a teaser visual.

The series began life as a web novel by Mugi Mameta, who started serializing the story on Shousetsuka ni Narou (often called "Narou") in April 2022. The platform has become Japan's most reliable pipeline for isekai and fantasy romance hits, and Mameta's tale of a former monster ruler reincarnated as a count's daughter quickly drew a devoted readership.

Futabasha picked up the novel for its M Novels f imprint, the publisher's romance-focused light novel line, before the series expanded into a manga adaptation illustrated by Toi Ishino. The story follows its heroine as she navigates aristocratic life while a serious-minded military officer keeps showing up to be fed — a premise that leans heavily on the comfort-food romance trend currently sweeping shoujo and josei shelves.

Production studio, staff, cast, and a premiere window have not yet been disclosed. The announcement visual is the only artwork released so far.

The insider take

From Tokyo, the timing reads as deliberate. Golden Week is when publishers traditionally tee up their summer announcement slate, and Futabasha has been quietly building a stable of "food-and-feelings" romance properties to compete with Kadokawa and Ichijinsha in the cozy fantasy lane. Aisanai to Iwaremashitemo sits squarely in the Venn diagram of villainess-adjacent isekai and culinary romance — two genres that have proven unusually durable on streaming platforms abroad. Expect the production committee to lean into international licensing early; this is exactly the kind of title Crunchyroll and Hidive typically race for at AnimeJapan-adjacent windows.
