BODY: When the first Kingdom Come: Deliverance came to the original Switch, the big news was that it ran at all. Its sequel is now headed to Switch 2, and this time the hardware isn't the joke.

On September 10, Deep Silver announced a Nintendo Switch 2 version of Kingdom Come: Deliverance II Royal Edition for the Japanese market. The game is Warhorse Studios' huge medieval open-world RPG, and the Switch 2 version is due in 2027. There's no exact date or price yet.

The Royal Edition includes the base game plus all three story expansions, which cost extra on other platforms: Brushes with Death, Legacy of the Forge and Mysteria Ecclesiae. It also adds bonus gear and quests. On Switch 2, the game runs at 1080p in handheld mode and up to 1440p (upscaled) on a TV. It supports HDR and Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, and the menus have been redesigned for smaller screens.

The first game's Switch launch looked very different. Saber Interactive's 2024 port took two years to make. It ran at a shifting resolution between 540p and 720p, and frame rates could drop from 30 to around 20 in busy scenes. It was an impressive technical feat, but the hardware clearly wasn't built for a game like that.

The sequel comes in with strong sales behind it. After its February 2025 release, it sold more than a million copies on day one and over 6 million by June 2026, AUTOMATON reports.

The insider take

Japanese gamers have a fond name for ports like the first game's Switch version: mucha ishoku, or "reckless port." It's the same label given to The Witcher 3 and Doom, games people were amazed to see running on the Switch at all. AUTOMATON's headline plays on that history by calling the sequel a smooth port instead. The timing matters in Japan, where Nintendo hardware leads the market and many players never bought a PS5 or a gaming PC. A polished version with every expansion included could be the first time many Japanese players meet Henry. Hardcore Western RPGs are still a niche here, but a portable edition with all the DLC is about the strongest pitch this kind of game can make.
