BODY: Call of Duty has cast one of Hollywood's best-known faces. At the Tokyo Game Show 2026, Activision showed a new story trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. It confirms that Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen appears in the campaign.
The trailer premiered on September 17 during the "XBOX Tokyo Game Show 2026 Broadcast." Captain Price leads the footage as usual, but this time other Task Force 141 operatives also get screen time. Activision hasn't said much about who Mikkelsen plays. The trailer confirms he's in the story, but his character's name and allegiance are still unknown.
The campaign is set during a full-scale war between North and South Korea. According to GAME Watch, Price is out for revenge in this story. He's fighting as an individual on a personal vendetta, not just as a soldier following his government's orders. For a character who has long been the series' steady professional, that's a darker direction.
Modern Warfare 4 launches October 23, 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. In Japan, the Standard Edition costs ¥9,800 and the Deluxe Edition costs ¥13,200. GAME Watch also noted that, according to developer interviews, the team is still adjusting multiplayer time-to-kill (how quickly players go down).
The insider take
In Tokyo, Mikkelsen isn't just a Hollywood star. Many Japanese players know him best as Cliff in Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding, and that history gives this casting extra appeal in Japan. Showing the trailer on an Xbox stream at TGS also fits Microsoft's continued push for a bigger share of a market where PlayStation and Nintendo dominate. The Switch 2 version matters even more here. Call of Duty has always been a niche series in Japan compared with its success overseas, and launching on Nintendo's hardware gives it access to Japan's largest console audience. The Korean Peninsula setting is also close to home for Japanese players, so expect it to get more attention here than earlier campaigns set in far-off locations. Whether that helps or hurts the game in Japan will depend on how carefully the story handles the conflict.
