BODY: TYPE-MOON's cult fighting game series is coming back. Aniplex has confirmed that MELTY BLOOD: TWI-LUMINA, the next entry in the long-running 2D fighter franchise, will release on April 22, 2027. The announcement also shows White Len, a character longtime fans have been waiting to see again.
The game is coming to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch and PC. Pricing hasn't been announced. Supporting both last-gen and current-gen hardware, from Xbox One to Switch 2, is a clear bid to reach as many players as possible. That fits a series that has always relied on a committed player base as much as on big launch sales.
Twi-Lumina follows Melty Blood: Type Lumina from 2021. That game rebooted the series using the cast and setting of the Tsukihime remake, A piece of blue glass moon. It added modern features like rollback netcode and easy auto-combos while keeping the fast, air-heavy style the series is known for.
White Len is the headline reveal so far. She first appeared in the mid-2000s Melty Blood games as a colder, sharper counterpart to Len, the quiet cat familiar. Her elegant design and ice-themed moves made her a fan favorite, so her return is a strong signal that Twi-Lumina plans to bring back more of the series' deep roster.
The insider take
In Japan, Melty Blood has never been just another anime fighter. It started as a doujin game in 2002, made by fans for fans, and grew up at events like Comiket and in arcades around Akihabara and Takadanobaba before it went commercial. That grassroots history is why people here still care so much about it. The "Twi-" in the title hints at twilight, which points toward the moon-themed story TYPE-MOON is still telling in the Tsukihime remake. Fans are still waiting on the remake's second half, so many will be watching Twi-Lumina's roster and story mode for clues. With release more than seven months away, expect location tests and demos at Tokyo Game Show and EVO Japan to set the tone first.
