BODY: The booster-pack hourglass that has quietly governed the sleep schedules of millions of phone-tapping trainers is about to become a lamp you can put on your desk.
Pokémon has announced a new merchandise line themed around Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket — affectionately shortened to "Pokepoke" in Japan — arriving at Pokémon Center stores nationwide on September 26. The Pokémon Center Online store jumps the queue, opening orders at 10:00 a.m. on September 24.
The headline item is the Pack Hourglass LED Light (¥6,600), a physical rendering of the in-game timer players watch tick down before their next free pack. Also notable are three Paper Theater kits (¥5,500 each) that rebuild card illustrations as layered 3D dioramas, featuring Eevee ex, Suicune ex, and Mega Sableye ex.
The rest of the lineup leans practical. There are sticker sets in pouches (¥1,100) tied to specific expansions — Dialga and Palkia, Solgaleo and Lunala, Ho-Oh and Lugia — plus carabiner pouches at ¥990, two-piece coin pin sets at ¥1,430, a smartphone hand strap at ¥2,200, a cap at ¥2,970, and a tissue case doubling as a shoulder sacoche at ¥3,850. Apparel tops out with four sweatshirt designs at ¥7,700 each, covering Eevee, Snorlax ex, Charmander, and Mega Charizard Y ex. A MOFT phone stand collaboration rounds things out at ¥5,940.
The insider take
Watch the MOFT stand and the hand strap — they are the tell. Pokepoke is a phone game whose entire ritual is one-handed tapping on a train, and Pokémon Center's merch team is selling accessories for that posture rather than another shelf of plush. There is also something quietly recursive about the Paper Theater kits: a physical craft object reconstructing a digital card that simulates a physical card. Expect the LED hourglass to be the resale-listing casualty by evening on launch day; Shibuya PARCO and Ikebukuro's Mega Tokyo store typically absorb the worst of the queue, and the online store's two-day head start is the only real defense.
