BODY: Free shoes, no queue, no resale markup — just not for your actual feet. Niantic and The Pokémon Company are currently distributing an adidas-branded avatar item in Pokémon GO, and claiming it takes about fifteen seconds.
The item is the adidas Pokemon Megaride Shoes, a cosmetic for your in-game trainer. To get it, head to the Pokémon GO Web Store, find the code-entry field, and input ADIDASxPOKEMON. The shoes land in your avatar wardrobe immediately. GAME Watch notes the giveaway is explicitly time-limited with no published end date, which is the usual shape of these campaigns — the code works until it quietly doesn't, so there's no reason to sit on it.
Two companion pieces, an adidas Pokemon Jacket and an adidas Pokemon Cap, are not part of the code drop. Those are tied to Time Challenges run at adidas retail locations, meaning you need to physically show up at a store to complete them. It's the split you'd expect: the free item goes wide to drive attention, while the full fit requires walking through a door.
The campaign follows a long-running relationship between adidas and Pokémon, which has produced everything from real-world footwear collections to in-game cosmetics over the past several years.
The insider take
Retail-linked Time Challenges make far more sense in Japan than they might elsewhere, and that's likely why they keep showing up here. Pokémon GO's Japanese player base skews notably older than outsiders assume — plenty of commuters in their thirties and forties playing on the way to work — and dense urban shopping districts mean an adidas store is often already on the route, not a special trip. Add the fact that Japanese sneaker culture treats brand collaborations as genuine cultural events rather than marketing noise, and a virtual pair of Megarides carries real signaling weight in a country where the physical version would sell out on release morning. Getting the free code is the easy part; the jacket is the flex.
