BODY: The Pokémon Company has confirmed that the first paid add-on for its Nintendo Switch 2 slow-life sandbox game Poko a Pokémon (ぽこ あ ポケモン, nicknamed "Poko-Poke") arrives the morning of August 5. Titled "Bubbling Seafloor Town" (ブクブク うみぞこの街), the DLC takes the series' laid-back building loop beneath the waves.
The new content is bundled in the Poko a Pokémon Expansion Pass, priced at ¥4,400, which is slated to deliver three DLC packs in total. Players carry over their existing save data, but there's a gate: you'll need to finish the free Ver. 2.0.0 update, complete the "Raise the Environment Level Further" quest in Donnyori Seaside Town, and learn the new "Diving" move before you can descend.
That free Ver. 2.0.0 update ships to all players regardless of whether they buy the pass. It introduces the Diving move for underwater exploration, upgrades the existing Surfing ability, and folds in a range of quality-of-life improvements.
Down in the seafloor town itself, the game leans hard into aquatic novelty. Water-type Pokémon help grow watermelons in submerged fields, electric-types power bubble machines, and Block Floats let players construct 3D structures underwater. There are Sharpedo submarine-themed rooms, bioluminescent coral lighting in the deep-sea zones, a new "Smoothie" cooking recipe, fresh outfit coordinates, and additional Pokémon to encounter.
The insider take
Poko-Poke has quietly become one of the more interesting entries in Nintendo's early Switch 2 lineup here in Tokyo—a deliberate pivot away from the mainline RPG grind toward the Animal Crossing-style comfort gaming that dominates Japanese casual play. The ¥4,400 season-pass model is standard for first-party Nintendo now, but pairing it with a genuinely substantial free 2.0 update is a savvy move: it keeps lapsed players logging in while dangling the paid content just past the free finish line. Expect the underwater theme to drive a wave of social-media build showcases.
