BODY: Most franchises celebrate a 30th anniversary with fireworks. Pokémon decided to celebrate with a nap. On September 1, The Pokémon Company staged the "Pokémon 30th Anniversary Sleep Presentation" (ねむる発表会) in Tokyo — an event dedicated entirely to the surprisingly deep intersection of Pikachu and a good night's rest.
The headline reveal was a Poké Ball you can actually sleep inside. Partnering with luxury brand NOT A HOTEL, Pokémon unveiled a Poké Ball-shaped accommodation set in Hokkaido — a life-sized version of the iconic capsule reimagined as a getaway suite.
The rest of the showcase leaned into cozy commerce. A collaboration with long-established bedding maker Showa Nishikawa, tied to the Pokémon Sleep mobile app, brings wearable blankets, Snorlax-appropriate body pillows, blankets, stretch pillow towels, and the crowd-pleasing "giga pillow" — arriving October 16, with some items following November 6. Meanwhile, mattress brand NELL launched a NELL × COIL line of sheets and roomwear on the event day itself.
Fashion fans got their fix too. Gelato Pique, Japan's reigning premium loungewear label, dropped its "Pokémon meets GELATO PIQUE" clothing and accessory collection on September 9, while haircare brand Straine rolled out Pikachu-, Eevee-, and Espeon-themed sets (¥3,960 each) on September 18. Onstage, talents Yuta Hongo and Sayuri Matsumura appeared alongside Pikachu and a Snorlax in a nightcap.
The insider take
Sleep is quietly one of Pokémon's smartest business bets. Since Pokémon Sleep launched in 2023, the company has been building an entire lifestyle vertical around rest — and it maps neatly onto Japan's cultural obsession with sleep debt in a famously overworked society. Gelato Pique and Showa Nishikawa aren't random picks: they're aspirational, giftable homeware brands that put Pokémon squarely in the adult premium market, not the toy aisle. Snorlax, the eternal mascot of doing nothing, has never worked harder.
