BODY:
GAME Watch reports a possible new vulnerability in PlayStation Network: family members are being added to some PSN accounts without the manager's permission, and Sony Interactive Entertainment has not formally announced anything about it.
The report says the cases have occurred since October 6. In the affected accounts, multiple family members were added, reportedly bypassing the password and two-factor authentication, and personal information including credit card details could possibly be stolen through those added members. Multiple reports have appeared on X, with users actively exchanging information. The example account shown in the report has six unidentified child members added, apparently from overseas access.
To check on a PS5, open the settings menu (gear icon at the top right of the screen), then Users and Accounts, then Family, then Family Management. If there has been unauthorized access, an unknown family member will appear there. If you find one, the report recommends contacting PlayStation support and deleting credit card and other payment information.
The insider take
The practical guidance for now is the report's: check your family list, and if anything looks wrong, contact support and remove saved payment details. This is a report from affected users, not a confirmation from Sony.
