BODY: Sora has already fought in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Now the spiky-haired Keyblade wielder is heading to Fortnite's battle royale island.
Epic Games announced on September 14, 2026 that Sora, the hero of the Kingdom Hearts series, will join Fortnite as part of a collaboration with the franchise. The character is scheduled to arrive sometime this week. Epic has not yet given an exact date.
Epic released a video with the announcement that shows Sora holding his signature Keyblade. That suggests the weapon will be part of the collab, but Epic has not fully explained what the bundle includes or whether the Keyblade will work as a harvesting tool, a back bling or something else.
This crossover seems likely to happen at some point. Kingdom Hearts is a joint project between Square Enix and Disney, and Disney has become one of Epic's closest partners since it invested $1.5 billion in the company in 2024. Fortnite already has plenty of Disney, Marvel and Star Wars content, and Square Enix characters have shown up in the game before. Sora brings both sides together, and fans have wanted this for years. Kingdom Hearts turns 25 in 2027, which also makes the timing feel right.
The insider take
In Japan, Kingdom Hearts is more than a crossover game. It's a comfort franchise for people who grew up in the PS2 era, and Tetsuya Nomura's character designs still sell a lot of merchandise in Tokyo stores. Fortnite has a smaller player base here than in the West, where Apex Legends and domestic mobile games lead the market. Crossovers with Japanese characters have been Epic's most reliable way to reach local players, and 4Gamer's quick coverage shows that interest. Fans are also still waiting for news about Kingdom Hearts IV, and some will read Sora's return to the spotlight as a sign that Square Enix wants to keep the series in front of fans. Don't expect a release date from this collab, though. For now, Sora appearing in another company's game is the main sign that the series is still active.
