BODY: Team Ninja's demon-filled version of ancient China is coming back, and you can play some of it today. Koei Tecmo Games has set March 4, 2027 as the Japanese release date for Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember. It's the sequel to the 2023 hit Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, and it's coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC.

The game was first shown at Xbox Games Showcase 2026 with only an "early 2027" window. It returns to a Three Kingdoms era where monstrous demons roam the battlefields, and it keeps the series' fast, acrobatic Chinese martial arts combat.

In Japan, the Standard Edition costs ¥9,680, the Digital Deluxe Edition costs ¥13,640 and the physical "Treasure Box" costs ¥15,180. Players who buy early get a bonus armor set.

A free alpha demo is out now on PS5, Steam and Xbox, and it runs until September 30, 2026. It's set in the Chōhan field (Changban in Chinese), includes character creation and supports co-op multiplayer. Players who beat the demo's boss will get the Phoenix Crest Helmet in the full game. The demo isn't on Switch 2, so Nintendo players will have to wait.

The insider take

The Changban setting was a smart choice for Japanese fans. The Battle of Changban is one of the best-known scenes in the Three Kingdoms story. Zhao Yun rides through enemy lines to rescue Liu Bei's infant son, and Zhang Fei holds a bridge alone. Japanese players know it well from Yokoyama Mitsuteru's manga and from Koei Tecmo's own Dynasty Warriors and Romance of the Three Kingdoms games. Putting it in the demo draws on that familiarity. The Switch 2 version also matters. Team Ninja's hard action games have mostly been on PlayStation and PC, and Switch 2 is selling fast in Japan, so this could bring the series a much bigger audience at home. The date announcement also lands just ahead of the busy autumn Tokyo Game Show season, which gives Koei Tecmo room to use its show time on hands-on play.
