BODY: HoYoverse is about to do something it has spent years avoiding: let players put a god on their team.
The studio announced on Oct. 30 that Honkai: Star Rail Ver. 4.7, titled "Now, the Stars Are Wrapped in Laughter," will go live on Nov. 11. The headline addition is ★Aha — the Aeon of Elation, the cosmos-level trickster deity who has been needling the cast from the margins since the game's early chapters. Aeons are the setting's top tier of power, name-dropped constantly and almost never shown. Making one playable is a lore decision as much as a gacha one.
The update also brings the Dual Paradise storyline to a close, wrapping a narrative thread that has anchored the game's recent versions. HoYoverse has leaned on arc-ending patches as its biggest spike moments, and 4.7 looks built to that template: a climactic chapter, a marquee banner character, and a reason for lapsed players to reinstall.
That last part is where the giveaway comes in. Alongside the update, HoYoverse is running a free distribution event offering one limited 5-star character selected from a pool of three — Acheron among them — plus one Eidolon for the chosen unit. Handing out a limited 5-star for free is rare in Star Rail, and bundling an Eidolon with it is rarer still. Acheron in particular has been one of the game's most sought-after units since her debut, and offering her at zero cost is a meaningful concession in a game economy built on scarcity.
The insider take
In Japan, the Acheron offer is the real story. Her name in the Japanese build is Yomi — the underworld of Shinto myth — and her katana-wielding, Japanese-inflected design made her a domestic favorite well beyond her raw combat value. Japanese players also sit inside a gacha market where consumer-affairs scrutiny and player fatigue have pushed publishers toward visible generosity: guaranteed-pull campaigns, anniversary handouts, pity transparency. A free limited 5-star plus an Eidolon reads less like celebration and more like competitive positioning in a Tokyo market where Star Rail is fighting its own stablemate Genshin Impact, plus Fate/Grand Order and a crowded field of domestic titles, for the same wallets.
