BODY: A 2027 anime announcement in October 2026 tells you something about how far ahead Japan's production pipeline now runs β and the team behind Noa-senpai wa Tomodachi has just shown its hand early.
The official website for the television anime adaptation of Enma Akiyama's manga Noa-senpai wa Tomodachi (Noa Is My Senior, and My Friend) unveiled its main cast and a key visual on Sunday, confirming a 2027 broadcast window. No specific season or network was attached to the announcement.
Rina Kawaguchi, who appeared in Witch Watch, voices the title character Noa Saotome. Tomoya Itou, recently heard in Sentai Red Isekai de Boukensha ni Naru, plays her counterpart Rihito Ootsuka. Both are relatively early-career performers, which makes the pairing a notable bet for a series built almost entirely on the chemistry between two voices.
Behind the camera is Shinsuke Yanagi, whose credits include Jaku-Chara Tomozaki-kun and Mamahaha no Tsurego ga Motokano datta β two series that lived and died on the same thing this one will: awkward conversation, carefully timed pauses, and the comedy of people failing to say what they mean. It is hard to imagine a more on-brand hire.
The accompanying key visual arrived alongside the cast reveal, giving fans their first real look at the adaptation's character designs ahead of what will likely be a long wait.
The insider take
From Tokyo, the striking thing here is the lead time. Studios are now announcing casts more than a year out, partly because the staffing crunch has stretched schedules and partly because early reveals keep a manga's momentum alive during the gap. For a title in the crowded "almost-but-not-quite romance" lane β a genre Japanese publishers have leaned on hard since Kaguya-sama and Komi-san proved its legs β the senpai-kouhai dynamic is a sturdy hook with a built-in domestic readership. Yanagi's involvement reads as a deliberate signal to that audience: this will be a quiet, dialogue-forward show rather than a loud one. The real test, as ever, will be whether the comic timing survives the translation from page to screen.
