BODY: Fourteen films across three Ikebukuro multiplexes, a live orchestra, and the unveiling of a brand-new anime festival β TOKYO ANIME NEXT has just published its complete lineup, and it is an unusually ambitious calling card for an event that technically doesn't exist yet.
Running October 30 to November 2 at venues around Ikebukuro, TOKYO ANIME NEXT is a launch project for a larger anime event planned for 2027. The screenings are the centerpiece, split across two days at Ikebukuro HUMAX Cinemas, TOHO Cinemas Ikebukuro, and Grand Cinema Sunshine Ikebukuro.
October 31 brings Your Name., Crayon Shin-chan: The Storm Called the Adult Empire Strikes Back, Jujutsu Kaisen 0, Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Night, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Fullmetal Alchemist: The Sacred Star of Milos, and LONA. November 1 follows with Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba β Infinity Castle, Chapter 1: Akaza Returns, Tales from Earthsea, Nintama Rantaro the Movie, My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising, Detective Conan: The Crimson Love Letter, Expelled from Paradise: Resonance of the Heart, and ONE PIECE FILM GOLD.
Organizers also filled in the last blank on the talk-show schedule: the Heroes Rising session will feature character designer Yoshihiko Umakoshi, animator Yutaka Nakamura, and Bones Film producer Yoshihiro Oyabu.
The closing day hosts a three-part main event pairing signature scenes from Demon Slayer, Attack on Titan, and Detective Conan with live accompaniment by the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, plus performances from Mai Kuraki, Nami Nakagawa, and Ai Higuchi. It ends with the first public reveal of the 2027 event's name and concept. Admission to the closing-day main stage is free, with a second advance lottery open through e+. The film screenings themselves are ticketed. Children's workshops and career seminars for aspiring industry workers round out the week.
The insider take
Siting this in Ikebukuro rather than a convention hall is the real story. AnimeJapan owns the trade-show format out at Tokyo Big Sight; Ikebukuro β home to Animate's flagship, Sunshine City, and Otome Road β lets an event colonize an entire neighborhood that is already an anime district seven days a week. Putting Yutaka Nakamura on a stage is also a deliberate signal to sakuga diehards that this isn't just an IP showcase. Expect the 2027 reveal to lean hard on that city-wide footprint.
